Paris tops list of pickpocketing hotspots, KL ranks 20th

Paris has been identified as the world's leading destination for pickpocketing and scams, according to a recent study by price comparison website Compare the Market. The list, which covers 34 countries, places the French capital at the top, with tourist hotspots like the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre frequently targeted.

Las Vegas in the United States secured the second position, with widespread reports of scams and pickpocketing in the city known for its casinos and nightlife. New York, "The Big Apple," followed in third place, with tourists facing risks of losing personal belongings and falling victim to scams.

Other European cities also featured prominently on the list. Rome ranked fourth, followed by Los Angeles (fifth) and London (sixth). Athens, Sofia, Barcelona, and Amsterdam completed the top ten, with Amsterdam experiencing annual issues with pickpocketing in its major urban areas.

In Asia, Kuala Lumpur ranked 20th globally and second within the continent for pickpocketing and scams. Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam was close behind at 19th. Other Asian cities on the list included Beijing (22nd), Bangkok (23rd), Tokyo (27th), Singapore (29th), Hong Kong (30th), Macau (31st), Shanghai (32nd), Taipei (33rd), and Mecca (34th).

The study advises the public to be vigilant against distraction tactics, pickpocketing in crowded areas, and organized group operations to avoid becoming victims.
