Paroi Seat: A Three-Way Battleground in Negeri Sembilan Elections

The Paroi state constituency in Negeri Sembilan is poised to be a focal point of the upcoming state elections, boasting the highest number of voters at 64,998 and anticipating a fiercely contested three-way race. This seat is widely regarded as a 'hot' constituency, having seen its representation shift among different parties in the past three electoral cycles, underscoring its volatile political landscape.

Currently, the Paroi seat is held by Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd. Zin, 59, representing Perikatan Nasional (PN). He secured victory in the 2023 state election with a majority of 5,539 votes against candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and another challenger. With the current political understanding between PN and Barisan Nasional (BN) for this election, Kamarol Ridzuan is seen as having an advantage, especially given BN's past control of Paroi in the 2004 and 2013 general elections before losing it to PH in 2018.

However, Kamarol Ridzuan faces significant challenges from two young, ambitious candidates who are expected to target the under-40 demographic, which constitutes 56.79% of the electorate in Paroi. Pakatan Harapan has nominated Ahmad Shahir Mohd. Shah, 41, the Secretary of the National Trust Party (Amanah) Youth wing, aiming to reclaim the seat. Ahmad Shahir benefits from representing the coalition that currently leads the state government and his prior experience as a press secretary to the Menteri Besar.

The contest is further energized by the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) candidate, Mohd. Nazree Mohd. Yunus, 42, the state's Information Chief. Although this marks Bersatu's debut in elections under its own banner, Mohd. Nazree, a local figure, is not unknown in Paroi. He has been building his influence in the area since his candidacy for the Rembau parliamentary seat under the PN ticket in the 15th General Election. As the campaign enters its fifth day, both younger candidates are actively engaging with constituents, presenting their platforms in hopes of unseating the incumbent and becoming Paroi's new representative.
