Party member Tsai Pi-ju returns to secular life, hears Ko Wen-je's emotional speech

The Taiwan People's Party celebrated its seventh anniversary in Taichung, marked by an impassioned speech from former chairman Ko Wen-je. Addressing the attendees, Ko declared, "Lai Ching-te, we will absolutely not surrender," a defiant stance resonating with party members.

Among those present was Tsai Pi-ju, identified as the party's "No. 002" member. Tsai had recently returned to secular life after a period of monastic practice at Fo Guang Shan in Kaohsiung. She listened to Ko's emotional address, acknowledging his resilience.

"We are not Chairman Ko; we don't think we can endure such a difficult journey like Chairman Ko," Tsai said. "Ko's mind is strong. Political pressure and attempts to 'fix' him are just him speaking his feelings about Lai Ching-te." She affirmed her support as a party member for Ko's views and expressed hope for overcoming current challenges.

Ko Wen-je, the party's "No. 001" member, was previously involved in the 2024 Jinghua City development case. Tsai Pi-ju, once a close aide, had also been questioned as a witness in relation to the case, which she vehemently denied, threatening legal action. The interaction and political distance between Ko and Tsai have been subjects of public discussion.
