Taichung Mayor calls for no-confidence votes against ruling party, president

Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen attended the 7th-anniversary celebration of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) in Taichung, where she urged a "national vote of no confidence" against the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in 2026 and against President Lai Ching-te in 2028.

Speaking as the host mayor, Lu welcomed the TPP, calling it the first young political party in Taiwan. She highlighted Taichung as the first demonstration zone for blue-white cooperation, suggesting the TPP's anniversary event was fittingly held there. If the DPP does not change its ways, she warned, a "national vote against Lai" would follow in 2028.
