Pas Youth Wing Objects to Gerakan Contesting Seberang Jaya Seat

The Permatang Pauh Pas Youth Wing has voiced strong opposition to the Malaysian People's Movement Party (Gerakan)'s intention to contest the Seberang Jaya State Legislative Assembly seat in the upcoming election. The wing's chief, Muhammad Aiman Shamsul Bahrin, stated that such a move undermines the spirit of cooperation within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition in Penang.

Muhammad Aiman argued that Gerakan should focus on strengthening its presence in areas with larger non-Malay voter compositions and building grassroots influence. He highlighted that the Seberang Jaya seat was won by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) under the PN ticket in the 2023 Penang State Election, indicating a clear understanding of seat allocation within the coalition.

He further cautioned that Gerakan's proposal could create perceptions of internal competition and division within PN, particularly in Penang. At a time when the public desires a strong opposition, coalition parties should prioritize strengthening cooperation rather than creating opportunities for internal conflict. Muhammad Aiman stressed that while Seberang Jaya was not contested by Pas in the previous state election, it is a Malay-majority area deserving serious consideration in PN's seat distribution discussions.

Pas Youth also reminded Gerakan of the experience in the DUN Bayan Lepas seat during the last state election, which was contested by the Gerakan President himself. They believe this should serve as a lesson that internal competition in winnable seats only benefits the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. Therefore, Pas Youth issued a stern warning to Gerakan against damaging the camaraderie built within PN in Penang, urging them not to sacrifice larger inter-party relationships for a single seat and to avoid repeating past mistakes that led to 'free wins' for Pakatan Harapan.
