Pastor arrested for allegedly defrauding 18 Ogun members N2.5m

Authorities in Ogun State have apprehended a pastor, Kehinde Makinde, widely known as Pastor Kenny, in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding 18 members of his congregation of N2.5 million. The pastor is accused of falsely promising a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem, with each member expecting to receive N2 million upon their return.

Following four months of sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigation, detectives attached to the Obantoko Division, on 3rd August 2026, at about 1645hrs, arrested Kehinde Makinde ‘M’, popularly known as ‘Pastor Kenny’, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The arrest followed a four-month surveillance operation by detectives from the Obantoko Division. According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, Makinde also allegedly engaged in fraudulent spiritual deliverance sessions across Ogun, Oyo, and Osun states, manipulating unsuspecting individuals.

The arrest followed investigations into allegations that the suspect fraudulently manipulated unsuspecting victims under the guise of spiritual deliverance across Ogun, Oyo and Osun states.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect obtained approximately N2.5 million from the 18 fellowship members in Saje, Adatan. The police are currently holding Makinde in custody and are actively working to identify any additional victims and apprehend potential accomplices in the alleged scheme.
