PDIP reports hoax falsely identifying cadre as viral ride-hailing driver

PDIP’s Jakarta legal and advocacy unit has reported six social media accounts for allegedly spreading a hoax about party cadre Ellen Taroreh. The accounts used Taroreh’s photograph and presented her as Melva Pardede, a ride-hailing driver who became known after a protest on August 27.

The report was filed with Jakarta’s Metro Police on Monday under number LP/B/6616/IX/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA. Budhi Sembiring, secretary of the PDIP Jakarta legal unit, said the accounts named in the complaint included @tommybr_jipro, @wuzzerzone_reborn2, @gan_.d, @fatmawati.rauf, @dyth47626 and @lita.gading.

Ellen feels she has been defamed and her good name has been tarnished.

Sembiring said Taroreh had previously taken photographs with other PDIP figures, including Adian Napitupulu and Denny Wahyudi, also known as Denny Cagur, at the party’s school. One photograph showing Taroreh wearing a brown knit cap was later circulated with claims that she was the same person as Melva.

The purpose is to make clear that Melva is not a cadre or a PDIP person. The photo that was circulated is hers, not Melva’s.

Taroreh, who serves as deputy head of the South Jakarta PDIP branch for disaster response, health, women and children, felt she had been defamed, Sembiring said. He stressed that the photograph belonged to Taroreh and that Melva was not a PDIP cadre or party member.

Sembiring said Taroreh had never known the social media accounts that linked her to the viral driver. He called for the report to be processed quickly, saying the narrative had been deliberately circulated to divide the public and that legal accountability was needed.
