PDP chieftain urges unity after S’Court convention verdict

In the wake of a significant Supreme Court ruling that has reportedly invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) national convention, a prominent party chieftain, Chief Kefas Ropshik, has issued a strong appeal for unity and reconciliation. This call comes at a critical juncture, as internal turbulence and factional divisions have tested the party's resilience.

The Peoples Democratic Party has, in recent times, endured significant internal turbulence, ideological contestation and factional divisions that have tested the resilience of our great party.

Ropshik emphasized that the Supreme Court's decision represents a defining constitutional moment for the PDP. He urged all stakeholders to exercise maturity, restraint, and institutional discipline, cautioning against actions that could deepen existing divisions. The chieftain stressed the importance of avoiding premature or self-serving interpretations of the judgment, especially since the Certified True Copy has yet to be released.

The recent judicial pronouncement by the Supreme Court that invalidated the Ibadan convention, thereby recognising the Abdulrahman-led leadership, represents a critical constitutional moment that demands maturity, restraint and institutional discipline from all stakeholders.

Furthermore, Ropshik advocated for respect towards the leadership currently recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending a comprehensive review of the court's decision. He firmly stated that this is not a time for triumphalism or factional celebrations but rather for healing, rebuilding, and collective purpose. Despite the recent challenges, Ropshik expressed optimism about the PDP's prospects, asserting that the party remains a formidable force and that its darkest days are behind it.

While the Certified True Copy of the judgment is yet to be formally released, wisdom dictates that the leadership presently recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission be accorded due legitimacy, rather than subjected to premature or self-serving interpretations of the court’s decision.
