Pedestrian bridge restored in Risnjak National Park, ensuring Kupa River's natural flow

Risnjak National Park proudly announces the successful restoration of the pedestrian bridge near the Kupa River's source. This vital infrastructure, damaged by severe weather in 2022, has been meticulously repaired, ensuring safe passage for both local residents and the many visitors drawn to Gorski Kotar's unique landscapes. The project, a testament to collaborative efforts, saw significant investment from the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, the state budget, and the park's own resources.

Speaking at the site, Director of the Nature Protection Directorate, Igor Kreitmeyer, highlighted the total cost of 313,000 euros and the crucial co-financing from the Fund. He also emphasized the solidarity shown by all national parks and nature parks, which contributed through state budget funds, underscoring a shared commitment to nature conservation. This collective support is particularly meaningful, demonstrating a unified approach to preserving Croatia's natural heritage.

Luka Balen, Director of the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, noted the broader significance of the Fund's partnership with Risnjak National Park. With 2.6 million euros allocated to 25 projects for the park, covering biodiversity, renewable energy, and waste management, the Fund's commitment to systematic investment in nature protection and sustainable development is clear. The bridge's design, notably its lack of supports in the riverbed, ensures the Kupa River's natural flow, a crucial ecological consideration.

This restoration is part of a larger initiative to enhance the park's infrastructure and natural environment. The park recently secured 1.8 million euros for nature restoration and awaits government approval for a 1.4 million euro project to renovate the Risnjak mountain lodge. These developments reflect a strong dedication to preserving and improving Risnjak National Park for future generations, ensuring it remains a jewel of Gorski Kotar.
