PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Panjang is actively strengthening its workforce's preparedness for emergency situations, with a specific focus on fire incidents.

The company recently conducted an Awareness and Emergency Response Drill for Occupational Safety and Health (K3). This initiative saw the participation of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Fire and Rescue Department (Damkarmat) of Bandarlampung City, underscoring the collaborative approach to safety.

Hardianto, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang, stated that the drills are integral to fostering a robust safety culture. "This activity is part of the effort to strengthen the safety culture while ensuring workers understand emergency handling procedures, especially for fires," he explained. He emphasized that prompt and correct responses are vital for minimizing potential risks during a fire.

The drills served not only as a simulation but also as a critical test of the workers' readiness. The objective is for employees to know exactly what actions to take during a dangerous situation without needing constant direction. "When a fire occurs, the safety of life is the top priority. Every worker must understand the evacuation routes, know the safe zones, and follow the instructions of the evacuation team," Hardianto added.

In addition to the drills, the program included raising awareness about various fire hazards within the workplace. Workers received training on evacuation procedures, the proper use of fire extinguishers (APAR), and essential steps to take during emergencies. Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang views these drills as a necessary ongoing practice to ensure that workers' knowledge remains practical, not just theoretical, and to build their composure and decision-making skills in unexpected situations.
