Periférico Oriente bridge reconstruction 42% complete

The reconstruction of the Alameda Oriente 2 bridge, also known as Puente 2 de Periférico Oriente, in Nezahualcóyotl has reached 42% completion and is projected to be finished by October, according to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportations (SICT).

This structure, along with the adjacent Alameda Oriente 1 bridge, sustained significant damage during the 2017 earthquakes. Despite being located on one of the busiest roads in eastern Mexico Valley, rehabilitation work did not commence until recently, under the administrations of Claudia Sheinbaum, Delfina Gómez, and Clara Brugada.

Over 2 billion pesos have been allocated for the construction of both bridges as part of the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone of the State of Mexico. The Alameda Oriente 2 bridge will span 500 meters and feature three lanes of traffic. Current work involves constructing concrete boxes, columns, and caps, mounting beams, and driving concrete and steel piles.

Following the completion of Alameda Oriente 2, demolition and reconstruction of Alameda Oriente 1 will begin in November. This bridge will be 700 meters long with three lanes and is scheduled for completion in October 2027.
