Perlis executive councilor resigns from Bersatu party post

Megat Hashirat Hassan, a state executive councilor in Perlis, has resigned from her position as a committee member of the Arau division of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu).

The resignation, effective August 10, was confirmed by the state Bersatu Chairman and Menteri Besar, Abu Bakar Hamzah. In an official letter dated August 10, Megat stated that her decision was the most appropriate step after considering the current party developments and leadership direction. "This decision was made after considering current party developments and through due consideration. After assessing the situation and the current party leadership's direction, I feel that the decision to resign from the position is the most appropriate step," she stated in the letter.

Megat emphasized that her decision was based on personal considerations. She expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her by the party leadership during her tenure. This development follows previous reports indicating that Abu Bakar, along with another executive councilor, had resigned from the party's Supreme Council. Additionally, the Perlis Bersatu Secretary and a Senator had declared their departure from the party.
