Pernambuco Governor, Ex-Mayor in Tight Race, Poll Shows

A new Datafolha poll reveals a tight race for the governorship of Pernambuco, Brazil, indicating a technical tie between incumbent Governor Raquel Lyra and former Recife Mayor João Campos in a hypothetical second-round election.

The survey, released Friday, shows Lyra with 49% of voter intentions against Campos's 45%. This result falls within the poll's three-percentage-point margin of error, highlighting the close contest. The previous Datafolha poll in May showed Lyra with a more substantial lead of 51% to Campos's 40%.

In a potential first-round scenario, Lyra garners 48% of the vote, while Campos holds 42%. Other candidates, including Ivan Moraes and Camila Falcão, each have 1% support. A significant portion of voters, 5%, indicated they would cast blank or null votes, with 2% remaining undecided.

The poll also surveyed the race for the two Senate seats up for election. Marília Arraes leads with 18%, in a technical tie with Humberto Costa at 15%. Mendonça Filho follows with 10%, and Miguel Coelho has 9%. The Datafolha survey interviewed 1,022 voters in Pernambuco between July 28 and 30.
