Republicanos launches Tarcísio de Freitas's São Paulo re-election bid amid key absences

The Republicanos party is set to officially launch São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas's bid for re-election at a convention held at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium. The event will feature a speech by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, signaling a key alliance, but will see the absence of several prominent leaders from the Centrão and right-wing political blocs. The convention aims to showcase Tarcísio's ability to unite various political factions within São Paulo.

Twelve parties are part of Tarcísio's coalition, and the presidents of each are expected to speak briefly in support of his candidacy. However, some key figures, including Valdemar Costa Neto of PL and Ciro Nogueira of PP, will be represented by others due to prior commitments, such as attending other conventions or events in Brasília. Gilberto Kassab of PSD will also be absent, reportedly to avoid sharing a platform with Flávio Bolsonaro, with whom he has political differences.

Governor Tarcísio is expected to use his speech to emphasize his accomplishments during his first term, advocate for the continuation of his administration's policies, and present a hopeful vision for the state's future. He has invited supporters to attend the event, with organizers anticipating the arrival of 200 to 250 buses carrying supporters. The gymnasium has a capacity of 11,000, with additional screens planned for those outside.

Several party leaders have confirmed their attendance, including Marcos Pereira (Republicanos), Baleia Rossi (MDB), Renata Abreu (Podemos), and Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade), along with state leaders from União Brasil, PP, Cidadania, PSDB, and Avante. The convention is designed to project an image of a unified political front supporting Tarcísio's re-election campaign.
