Perpetrator of Karmouz massacre declared criminally insane by Alexandria court

In a development that brings a grim chapter to a close, the Public Prosecution in Alexandria has accepted a medical report from Abbasiya Mental Health Hospital. This report definitively states that the individual responsible for the horrific massacre in Karmouz, which claimed the lives of six people, was suffering from a severe mental disorder at the time of the incident. Consequently, the defendant is deemed not responsible for his actions.

The prosecution's decision to keep the defendant at Abbasiya Hospital pending the investigation's closure and to shelve the case reflects the findings of the medical assessment. The defendant had previously been admitted for evaluation of his mental and psychological state after being apprehended following the brutal killings of his mother and five siblings. He was found to have sustained injuries after residents intervened to prevent him from taking his own life.

The defendant's own account, as heard by the prosecution, revealed a tragic catalyst: his father's phone call to his mother announcing a divorce and remarriage, coupled with the cessation of financial support. This news plunged his mother, who was reportedly battling cancer, into a deep depression.
