Persija Keeps Semifinal Hopes Alive in Piala Presiden Elite 2026 After Beating PSMS Medan

Persija Jakarta secured a crucial 4-1 victory over PSMS Medan, keeping their aspirations for the Piala Presiden Elite 2026 semifinals alive. The win marked the first official match victory for the team under the guidance of coach Shin Tae-yong.

Goals from Arlyansyah, Victor Dethan, Agi Firmansyah, and Gustavo Almeida sealed the win for Persija, with Ikhsan Chan scoring the lone goal for PSMS. Coach Shin Tae-yong expressed his satisfaction with the players' tenacity, particularly highlighting the young squad's resilience in overcoming PSMS's challenge.

"This is our first win in an official match. I am very grateful to the players. Until the end, no one gave up, and their will was very high," Shin stated in the post-match press conference. Despite the convincing win, the South Korean coach acknowledged that Persija still requires time to develop, having not had an ideal preparation period for the tournament.

Shin also indicated that all players would receive opportunities if Persija advances to the semifinals, emphasizing the importance of rotation in building team strength. Following the Piala Presiden, Persija will conduct a training camp to integrate all players, including national team members and foreign legion, before commencing the Super League 2026/2027 season.
