Pertamina Leads ASEAN Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is spearheading the development of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ecosystem within Indonesia and across the ASEAN region. The company recently showcased its leadership at the ASEAN Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Workshop 2026 in Denpasar, Bali, an event organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The workshop served as a crucial platform for ASEAN nations to collaborate on accelerating the adoption of SAF as a key solution for decarbonizing the aviation sector. Sokhib Al Rokhman, Director of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations at the Ministry of Transportation, lauded Pertamina's commitment, highlighting the company's strategic collaborations as vital for advancing low-emission aviation and bolstering the national aviation industry's competitiveness.

Pertamina has built an integrated SAF ecosystem from upstream to downstream through cross-sector collaboration. SAF certified by CORSIA, produced at the Green Refinery RU IV Cilacap, is now distributed through Soekarno-Hatta Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, confirming Pertamina's readiness to provide international standard aviation fuel to support aviation decarbonization while strengthening Indonesia's position as a center for SAF development in ASEAN.

Pertamina presented its comprehensive, integrated end-to-end SAF ecosystem, a strategy aligned with Indonesia's Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target. The company demonstrated its entire SAF value chain, from collecting used cooking oil (UCO) through its UCOllect program to co-processing it at the Green Refinery in RU IV Cilacap, and finally distributing the certified SAF to airlines at major airports like Soekarno-Hatta and I Gusti Ngurah Rai.

This initiative has already yielded tangible results. Pertamina has established 47 UCOllect points, collected over 116,000 liters of used cooking oil from more than 5,200 households, and produced SAF that reduces emissions by up to 84% compared to conventional jet fuel. Vice President Aviation Fuel Business at Pertamina Patra Niaga, Yosep Iswadi, emphasized the workshop as a significant moment to strengthen SAF development synergy in ASEAN, reinforcing Indonesia's position as a hub for SAF innovation in the region.
