Peru to Host International Forum on Disaster Risk and Climate Crisis

Peru will host an international forum in September 2026 focused on disaster risk management and adaptation to the climate crisis. Researchers, experts, and academics from Latin America and the Caribbean will gather to exchange knowledge and propose strategies for enhancing territorial resilience and sustainable development.

The challenge for Latin America and the Caribbean consists of developing strategies to protect the population, strengthen territorial governance, and promote sustainable development.

The International Forum 2026, organized by the Network of Higher Education Institutions Committed to Integrated Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation (GIRD-ACC) of Latin America and the Caribbean, will take place on September 2 and 3 at the ESAN University campus in Lima. The event seeks to foster collaboration among academia, the state, the private sector, and international cooperation.

Organizers, including state universities like Engineering, San Marcos, and Agraria La Molina, alongside ESAN, highlighted the challenge for Latin America and the Caribbean to develop strategies that protect populations, strengthen territorial governance, and promote sustainable development. The forum aims to place scientific evidence and risk management at the forefront of public and private decision-making.
