Pet sterilization: Exclusive channel opened for vulnerable families

Paraguay’s National Directorate for Animal Defense, Health and Welfare has opened an exclusive email channel for dog and cat sterilization appointments, prioritizing families with limited financial resources.

The channel, castraciones@bienestaranimal.gov.py, is intended to remove economic barriers that prevent many households from accessing sterilization, which the agency describes as important for population control and disease prevention among companion animals.

The program operates under the slogan “Sterilizing is also caring.” The directorate said the service would prioritize pets belonging to vulnerable families that need state assistance to obtain the surgeries.

The measure is also intended to help reduce abandonment, encourage responsible pet ownership and make public veterinary health services more accessible across Paraguay. The agency said animal welfare should be available to everyone and that financial circumstances should not prevent pets from receiving care, protection and a dignified life.
