Pezeshkian: Now is the time for a deal - End the 'neither war nor peace' condition

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has assessed that the country is at a critical juncture, asserting that "now is the best time" to pursue an agreement with the United States. His goal is to end the current state of "neither war nor peace."

In statements to Iranian media, Pezeshkian highlighted what he perceives as domestic "cohesion, strength, and unity," describing Iran as "victorious and strong" following the recent conflict. He emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to navigate the current uncertainty.

Pezeshkian suggested that Iran and the United States should establish a communication channel to promptly address truce violations and avert further military confrontations. He acknowledged that violations can occur in any agreement but stressed the importance of a mechanism for their resolution, noting that the issue is being processed within negotiations in Oman.

Iran has outlined six conditions for the United States regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that Washington must "correct its behavior" for Tehran to permit free passage through the strategically vital waterway again. These conditions include ending threats against Iran and its regional allies, ceasing military actions, withdrawing US naval and air forces involved in the blockade, paying compensation for damages, lifting US sanctions, and unfreezing Iranian assets.
