In a statement shared via his X handle, Hamzat articulated that his ambition is rooted in a profound sense of service, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for every Lagos resident. His vision centers on building a Lagos that functions more effectively for families, businesses, and individuals alike.

Hamzat, who has served alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, acknowledged the progress made but stressed that significant work remains to be done. He expressed his readiness to step forward with his experience and a deep belief in the state's future, signaling the continuation of the journey towards a 'greater Lagos.' This move solidifies a gubernatorial bid that has been gaining considerable momentum in recent weeks.

Today, I submitted my expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 gubernatorial election. This journey is about service, responsibility, and building a Lagos that works better for every family, every business and every person that calls this state home.

The deputy governor's aspiration has garnered substantial backing, most notably from the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. The GAC unanimously endorsed Hamzat as the party's consensus candidate during a recent meeting. Furthermore, President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu have publicly declared their support for his ambition, positioning him as the frontrunner for the APC's nomination.
