Piraeus Hosts Successful Children's Cycling Event Ahead of "DEH Tour of Hellas 2026"

The Municipality of Piraeus, in collaboration with Cycling Greece, successfully hosted a vibrant "Cycling Day" for children, a key event leading up to the prestigious "DEH Tour of Hellas 2026." The event transformed Korai Square into a hub of smiles, energy, and bicycles, with students from primary and secondary schools actively participating in a rich program. This initiative seamlessly blended sports with education, play with creativity, and awareness-raising.

The "Cycling Day" was a beautiful sporting and educational activity that gave children the opportunity to get to know cycling through play, participation, and creative activity. It is particularly important for us to see young students come into contact with sports and simultaneously develop environmental awareness.

Young cyclists honed their skills on the "HERO 2030" cycling track, inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They engaged in speed and cooperation games, and learned about road safety. Creative activities, including drawing and interactive workshops, allowed children to express their imagination and develop environmental consciousness. Seminars on proper bicycle maintenance were also a highlight, alongside crucial first-aid guidance from Hellenic Red Cross volunteers.

As the Municipal Authority, we systematically invest in actions that promote sports and a healthy, active lifestyle from a young age, as through such initiatives, children's relationship with exercise is strengthened and the foundations are laid for a more active and aware society.

The day concluded with an exciting prize draw, featuring a bicycle and three protective helmets, bringing immense joy to the participants. Local officials, including the Municipal Councilor for Sports, Nikos Gemelos, and other council members, were present, underscoring the municipality's commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle from a young age. This event not only fostered a connection with sports and environmental awareness among children but also positioned Piraeus as a significant host for major sporting events like the "DEH Tour of Hellas 2026." The municipality's dedication to leveraging every opportunity to connect Piraeus with sports, international engagement, and citizen participation, with a strong focus on the younger generation, is evident.
