PKR rejects Nurul Izzah's resignation

Kuala Lumpur – The People's Justice Party (PKR) has rejected the resignation of Nurul Izzah Anwar from her position as deputy president. The party's Central Leadership Council (MPP) decided not to accept her resignation, instead granting her a temporary leave of absence.

According to PKR Information Chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, the leave will commence after the 2026 National Congress and continue until a date to be announced. He explained that Nurul Izzah requested time to manage personal affairs and complete her PhD studies. During her absence, the duties and responsibilities of the deputy president will be undertaken by a party vice president.

The MPP has decided not to accept her resignation, stepping down because she asked for time as stated in her own statement, among other things to manage herself and also to complete, continue her PhD education.

Fahmi assured that the party's operations and work would not be disrupted by this decision. Nurul Izzah will continue to be a member of PKR and will still contribute to the party's efforts. "So the work continues. Nurul Izzah remains a party member and will continue to help the party in its struggle, it's not a problem," he stated.

Nurul Izzah, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, had initially sought to step down from her role. The party's decision to grant her leave rather than accept her resignation underscores her continued importance within the PKR leadership.
