PKR's grassroots strength insufficient for election wins, says youth leader

The strength of PKR's grassroots support is not yet enough to translate into election wins, according to Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, head of the party's youth wing (AMK).

He pointed to the results of recent state elections in Sabah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan as evidence. "Popularity alone is not enough," Muhammad Kamil stated at the AMK National Congress in Melaka. "But after going through the Sabah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan state elections, there is one thing I think everyone agrees on: our grassroots strength is not yet strong enough to translate into victory."

Despite the setback, Muhammad Kamil urged party members not to lose hope. He called for accepting the "bitter reality" and using the "clear signal" from voters to "rise again." The party needs to re-examine its approaches and strategies, and develop a more robust narrative to convince the public to trust them again.

He reminded attendees of PKR's history of overcoming adversity, citing the party's resurgence after a low point in 2004 to challenge Barisan Nasional's two-thirds parliamentary majority in 2008. Ten years later, in 2018, PKR was instrumental in achieving the first-ever change of government in Malaysia. "Don't worry and don't be sad," he encouraged. "Strengthen our spirit, resolve, and determination. God willing, 10 years after 2018, we can achieve another success for Keadilan and the people of Malaysia."
