PKR women's wing calls for new leaders to champion reform

The Wanita PKR wing of Malaysia's Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is calling for more space to be given to emerging leaders to spearhead the party's ongoing reformist agenda. Fadhlina Sidek, the president of Wanita PKR, emphasized that the party's struggle is long-term and requires a new generation of leaders capable of navigating current political, economic, and social challenges. She urged members to remain united and steadfast in defending the party's principles.

"We must continue to give space to new warriors to lead and give them full space," Sidek stated during her address at the 19th Annual National Congress of Wanita PKR in Melaka. "Focus on the struggle. I am very confident and believe that this struggle must continue." The congress, themed "Restoring Reform, Building Madani," gathered 757 delegates and 304 observers from across the country.

The event served as a platform to evaluate the organization's achievements, renew commitment to reformist ideals, and chart the wing's future direction. Key discussions included strengthening the organization, enhancing women's leadership, and expanding female involvement in decision-making bodies. Proposals aimed for at least 30% female representation in Parliament, State Legislative Assemblies, and other key decision-making positions. The congress also addressed economic opportunities, skills training, entrepreneurship for women, and tackling issues such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, and exploitation of women and children.
