Italy is grappling with extreme heat, issuing red alerts for health risks in nearly all major cities on August 3rd. Temperatures are soaring between 36 and 41 degrees Celsius across the country, from the Alps to the south.

The historical city of Florence is experiencing particularly intense heat, with thermometers on some streets registering 53 degrees Celsius. This makes Florence consistently one of the nation's hottest urban centers.

Out of 27 major cities under daily monitoring, only Messina in Sicily and Reggio Calabria in Calabria, separated by about 12 kilometers across the Strait of Messina, are not under the highest alert. This widespread red alert signifies a threat to the health of the entire population, prompting appeals to avoid going outside during peak temperature hours.

Media outlets have dubbed the current situation a "heat tsunami over Italy." Forecasters predict this severe heatwave will persist until at least August 10th. The extensive number of cities under the highest level of alert is unprecedented.
