PML-N poised to grab lion’s share in AJK

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) appears set to secure a significant majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly following the second phase of elections. Unofficial results indicate the party is leading in most of the 12 refugee constituencies and at least two of the seven territorial constituencies where polling concluded.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured one refugee seat and is reportedly ahead in two territorial constituencies. However, the PPP has alleged widespread rigging and accused PML-N of using violence. The party claims one of its workers was killed in an attack by PML-N supporters, an accusation the PML-N denies.

Polling in two territorial constituencies, LA-27 and LA-28 in Muzaffarabad district, was postponed until Tuesday due to landslides and bad weather blocking access roads. Voting in other territorial constituencies was extended by one hour due to delays in the arrival of polling staff and materials. Sporadic clashes were reported in parts of Muzaffarabad city, with specific incidents of conflict between PML-N and PPP workers.

Political analysts suggest the PML-N's strong performance, particularly in refugee seats spread across Pakistan, could consolidate its position in the AJK political landscape. The party's leadership has expressed confidence in their electoral success, attributing it to the performance of their regional chief minister.
