Police Arrest Fleeing Driver, Four Others Over Stolen Truck in Ogun

Detectives in Ogun State, Nigeria, have arrested a trailer driver who had absconded with a vehicle, along with four other suspects. Authorities describe the operation as a breakthrough in uncovering a criminal syndicate specializing in stealing, dismantling, and selling parts of trailers.

The owner reported at the Ifo Divisional headquarters that his driver had absconded with the trailer, and all efforts made to trace both the driver and the vehicle proved unsuccessful.

The investigation began after the trailer's owner reported the driver missing with the vehicle on June 6, 2026. Despite extensive efforts to locate both the driver and the trailer, they remained untraced. The Ogun State Police Command launched an intelligence-driven investigation, utilizing technical resources to track the suspect.

On July 24, detectives apprehended the fleeing driver, identified as Temitope Omotayo Odulaja, in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Odulaja's arrest provided crucial information that significantly advanced the investigation. Subsequently, on July 25, four more suspects were arrested in Ijebu-Ode in connection with the criminal operation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the stolen trailer was dismantled shortly after its theft, with its parts allegedly sold off. Police have recovered parts of the trailer, including the trailer head, and have taken photographs of the dismantled vehicle as evidence. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining parts, identify and arrest other members of the syndicate, and ascertain the full scope of their activities.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the detectives for their successful operation. The police assured that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
