Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Delta, recover AK-47

In a significant breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper and armed robber, Shehu Malami, aged 45. The arrest, conducted by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team on April 29, 2026, at Ogor Market, Ughelli, led to the recovery of a formidable cache of arms, including one AK-47 rifle and 63 rounds of live ammunition from the suspect's hideout in Agbarha-Otor.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Malami is a key member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate that has been instilling fear in communities across Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri, and other parts of the state. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining members of this gang, demonstrating a concerted effort to dismantle criminal networks operating within Delta State.

The suspect later led operatives to his hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where one AK-47 rifle and 63 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Adding to the recent successes, another operation on May 2, 2026, near the Benin-Asaba Expressway resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, six rounds of live ammunition, and a Beretta pistol. While suspects in this second incident are still at large, the police command, under the leadership of CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating criminal elements.
