Police arrest teenager for stabbing 20-year-old in Cross River

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Cross River State after a 20-year-old man died following an alleged stabbing during a disagreement, police said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on August 31 on Peters Street in Awi community, Akamkpa Local Government Area. Uwem Daniel Akpan was taken to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, where he was confirmed dead. His family later recovered his remains.

The Cross River State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 20-year-old male, Uwem Daniel Akpan, who was allegedly stabbed during a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, Cross River on 31 August, 2026.

Cross River police spokesman ASP Sunday Eitokpah said the teenager remained in police custody while investigators examined the circumstances of the death and the suspect’s alleged involvement. The case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation and legal action.

Police urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Eitokpah said further information would be released as investigators establish the relevant facts.
