Police arrest two over vandalism, theft at Ondo hospital

The Ondo State Police Command has taken decisive action, arresting two individuals in connection with the theft and vandalism of property at the General Hospital in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area. This incident, which involved the pilfering of electrical items, represents a significant blow to public service delivery infrastructure.

The command has arrested suspected vandals involved in the theft and destruction of government property at the General Hospital, Igbotako.

The primary suspect, Promise Godspower, is accused of unlawfully entering the hospital premises and removing electrical installations. This act not only constitutes theft but also directly damages critical infrastructure intended for public use. The police have emphasized that such criminal acts undermine the community's access to essential services.

Adding a layer of concern to the case, a security officer attached to the hospital, Pogbara Sigalo, has also been apprehended. He is suspected of dereliction of duty for allegedly abandoning his post at the time of the incident, thereby creating an opportunity for the criminal act to occur. His arrest highlights the importance of accountability within security personnel responsible for safeguarding public facilities.

The criminal act not only amounted to theft but also caused serious damage to critical government infrastructure meant for public service delivery.

The police have recovered the stolen electrical cables and are intensifying their investigation to ascertain if any other individuals were involved. Further investigation equally revealed negligence on the part of the security personnel attached to the facility, one Pogbara Sigalo ‘m’, who reportedly abandoned his duty post at the time of the incident, thereby creating the opportunity for the criminal act to occur.
