Police begin rescue operation after Lagos–Benin highway attack

The Edo State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive rescue operation following a violent attack on a commercial bus along the Lagos-Benin Express Road. The incident, which occurred on April 18, 2026, saw gunmen open fire on a GUO Transport Company bus, resulting in the death of the driver and the abduction of three passengers. A fourth passenger, a woman, sustained gunshot wounds but was rescued by responding officers and is currently receiving medical attention.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has ordered an immediate escalation of rescue efforts, deploying tactical teams, anti-kidnapping units, and collaborating with local hunters and vigilantes to comb the surrounding forests.
