Police Daily: Young People Caught with Drugs in Public Places

Klaipėda police are investigating several cases of young people being caught with illicit substances in public areas. The Klaipėda City Police Commissariat launched three pre-trial investigations on Monday, July 27, for illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances without the intent to distribute. An additional investigation was initiated early Tuesday morning.

In one incident early Tuesday, around 1:55 AM, officers stopped a 26-year-old man on Taikos Avenue and found a plant-based substance suspected to be a narcotic. They also found a grinder with a similar substance on a 24-year-old individual.

On Monday, three men aged 25, 23, and 35 were apprehended in public locations on Rumpiškės and Žardininkų streets, as well as on Taikos Avenue, for drug-related offenses. The specific penalties these individuals face will depend on the quantity of substances found in their possession.

Under Lithuanian law, possession of small amounts of narcotic or psychotropic substances for personal use, without the intent to sell or distribute, is classified as a criminal offense. Penalties can include community service, fines, restriction of liberty, or arrest. For larger quantities, individuals could face imprisonment for up to two years.
