Police Hunt Attackers of Bauchi University Student Severely Injured and Robbed

A brutal attack on a 22-year-old student of Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift manhunt by the Bauchi State Police Command. The victim, Maryam Yakini, was reportedly attacked with a machete and knife outside her off-campus residence, sustaining horrific injuries including the severing of her left thumb and ear. She was also robbed of her ATM cards and student ID. The Punch reports that the police, while confirming the incident, have strongly refuted social media claims that the student had died, labeling them as false and an attempt to incite panic. Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has cautioned students to avoid loitering in isolated areas, especially at night, and has pledged to strengthen security measures around off-campus accommodations. The university management has also confirmed the attack, clarifying that it occurred off-campus, contrary to some misleading reports. The victim is currently responding to medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare. The assailant also robbed her of personal belongings, including two ATM cards (Opay and Access Bank) and her school identification card.
