Police Identify Suspect in Van Case with Dead Migrants

Croatian police have identified a suspect in the tragic incident where a van carrying migrants was found abandoned in Netretić, near Karlovac. The vehicle contained 19 migrants, four of whom were found dead due to the appalling conditions, and two others with severe injuries.

Minister of Interior Davor Božinović confirmed that the suspect is not a Croatian citizen and that international police cooperation is underway to apprehend them. This case highlights the brutal reality of migrant smuggling routes, where traffickers exploit vulnerable individuals for profit, often leading to devastating consequences.

The van, reportedly a small truck not designed for human transport, was crammed with approximately 30 migrants. The driver allegedly ejected 19 migrants, including the deceased and injured, before fleeing the scene. The deceased are suspected to have died from suffocation due to lack of space and ventilation, though autopsies are pending to determine the exact cause of death.
