Police Investigate Causes of Kalimantan Forest Fires, Confirm Arrests

Indonesian police are actively investigating the widespread forest and land fires plaguing Kalimantan, with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirming the detention of several individuals involved in land burning. While the investigation is ongoing, Prabowo declined to reveal preliminary findings or identify those held accountable. Law enforcement officers are also supporting ground task forces in fire suppression efforts across the affected regions. The Ministry of Forestry has assured that legal action will be pursued against any violations contributing to the wildfires. Ristianto Pribadi, Head of the Bureau of Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation, stated that if deliberate intent, negligence, or failures in fire prevention are uncovered, legal proceedings will commence. Residents and businesses are reminded that clearing land by fire is prohibited. Amidst the dense smoke, affected communities are urged to wear masks and limit outdoor activities when air quality deteriorates.
