Police smash four-man car theft ring in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has once again demonstrated its commitment to combating crime with the successful dismantling of a notorious car theft syndicate. This operation, a testament to intelligence-driven policing, has led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles, bringing a measure of relief to victims and reinforcing the public's confidence in law enforcement.

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on organised vehicle theft, with the arrest of members of a syndicate specialised in buying and selling stolen vehicles, as well as the recovery of stolen vehicles.

The syndicate's modus operandi involved the illicit trade of stolen vehicles, preying on unsuspecting owners and contributing to the broader issue of insecurity in the state. The breakthrough came following the arrest of Paul Nwabueze, whose confession provided crucial leads that enabled the police to track down his accomplices and receivers of the stolen goods. This highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation and the effectiveness of confessions in cracking down on organized crime.

This success is a direct result of intelligence-driven policing championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju and guided by the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu's vision, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted swiftly on credible intelligence. The recovery of two Toyota Hilux and three Sienna vehicles is a significant achievement, but the investigation is far from over. The police are actively pursuing a key receiver believed to be in possession of more stolen vehicles, signaling their determination to bring all perpetrators to justice and recover all stolen property. This ongoing effort is crucial for restoring peace of mind to the community and sending a clear message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.

The suspect had been on the run following his involvement in a previously reported case of vehicle theft and the earlier arrest of his accomplice, Uju Molokai (male, 32 years), on 16th November 2025.
