Political Security Minister Warns Officials to Uphold Trust and Honesty

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago, issued a stern warning to all officials, particularly at the regional level, to safeguard the trust placed in them by the public. He stressed that every position must be executed with utmost honesty, cautioning against the misuse of power for personal gain.

During a working visit and gathering with local government officials in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Minister Chaniago expressed concern over the frequency with which elected officials betray the people's trust. He highlighted that many regional heads and officials have recently become entangled in legal issues, which severely damages the public's hard-won confidence.

We once asked for votes from our people, please choose me, please trust me for the progress of my region. But when they are in that position, they betray their people.

"A leader must understand that a position has a time limit, so the opportunity to serve the community must be utilized as best as possible through responsible work," Chaniago stated, emphasizing that positions are a sacred trust from the people. He asserted that the authority vested in officials should be directed towards providing excellent service and fostering community progress, rather than self-enrichment.

Chaniago further underscored honesty as the fundamental pillar of governance. He reminded officials that falsehoods are eventually exposed, leading to greater consequences. He also noted that commitment to service extends beyond one's term in office or retirement, urging continuous dedication to maintain public trust and ensure regional development proceeds effectively.
