Prabowo Inaugurates Meninting Dam in Lombok, Bolstering Water Infrastructure

President Prabowo Subianto embarked on a working visit to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday, July 10, 2026, to inaugurate the Meninting Dam. The trip from Jakarta also included the symbolic inauguration of four other dams across Indonesia.

These five dams represent a significant push by the government to bolster water resource infrastructure. Officials highlighted the strategic role of these resources in enhancing food security, ensuring raw water supply, managing floods, and promoting clean energy. The Meninting Dam, in particular, is expected to boost agricultural productivity and provide a stable water source.

Construction on the Meninting Dam in West Lombok began in 2020 with an investment of Rp 1.4 trillion. The dam boasts a capacity of 12.2 million cubic meters and will irrigate 1,559 hectares of farmland. It will also supply 150 liters per second of raw water and has a potential for 0.8 megawatts of micro-hydro power. Additionally, the infrastructure is projected to reduce flooding in West Lombok by 20 percent.

President Prabowo was accompanied by several ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The Meninting Dam project was initiated during the previous administration of President Joko Widodo.
