Prabowo Inaugurates Revitalized Semarang Tawang Station, Cites Historical Legacy

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the revitalized Semarang Tawang Station on Thursday, underscoring the government's dedication to enhancing public transportation while safeguarding historical sites. The station, originally built in 1911 and operational by 1914, is a significant part of Indonesia's railway history and national development.

The revitalization project, completed in 330 days, focused on restoring the station's facade, main hall, and other elements to their original state, using historical documentation. Prabowo stressed the importance of preserving the station as a symbol of national identity and memory. "A great nation must not forget its history," he stated, emphasizing that railways are crucial for the economy and serve the public.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin explained that the revitalization aligns with President Prabowo's directive to improve services and preserve historical buildings. He noted that the station, now 112 years old, handled over 3.8 million passenger activities in 2025 and over 2.1 million in the first half of 2026, serving an average of 34 train journeys daily. This high volume confirms its status as a key mobility hub in Central Java.

Rasyidin expressed hope that the revitalized station would enhance passenger comfort, strengthen regional connectivity, and boost Semarang's tourism and economy. The station connects Semarang to major cities across Java, including Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, highlighting its strategic location and continued importance.
