Prabowo Plans Affordable Generic Drugs for Indonesians

President Prabowo Subianto has vowed to improve healthcare access in Indonesia by making generic medicines more affordable. His administration plans to offer low-cost generic drugs to the public within the next year, aiming to reduce overall healthcare expenses.

We will strive to provide medicines to the people at the lowest possible prices.

During the inauguration of the KH Muhammad Thohir Regional General Hospital in Krui, Lampung, Prabowo emphasized his commitment to providing medicines at the lowest possible prices. He also highlighted ongoing healthcare modernization efforts, including the distribution of nearly 1,000 units of modern medical equipment to hospitals nationwide. The government intends to renovate 350 to 400 hospitals and upgrade 10,000 community health centers.

I hope that within a year, we can begin providing affordable generic medicines to the public.

Presidential Chief of Staff Teddy Indra Wijaya noted that enhancing services at 66 regional public hospitals in underdeveloped areas is a priority. Progress is being made on new hospital constructions, with some already operational and others in the planning stages for future years. Prabowo also stressed the importance of integrity in public service, warning against misuse of authority and corruption during the hospital inauguration.
