Pramono Waives Fees for Six Months as Jakarta Relocates 614 Kramat Jati Dawn Traders

Jakarta has moved 614 traders who operated at dawn around Kramat Jati, ending a street-vending arrangement that the city says had occupied public space and disrupted residents’ activities.

The vendors have been distributed among several locations. A total of 331 traders will operate at Kramat Jati Market Sector 7, while 193 fish sellers have been placed at Lokbin Kramat Jati. Another 45 cake sellers will move to Lokbin Cililitan, and 45 traders will use other markets managed by Pasar Jaya.

Governor Pramono Anung acknowledged that reorganizing the area would not be easy. The activity had continued for more than 50 years, dating back to the early 1970s, he said. “This improvement is frankly not easy because this has been going on for more than 50 years, since the early 1970s,” Pramono said.

For the traders, we are waiving the fees or contributions at Lokbin Kramat Jati for six months.

To help vendors settle into Lokbin Kramat Jati, the Jakarta administration will waive their market fees for six months. After that period, the charge will be Rp180,000 per month, or Rp6,000 per day. Pramono said the government would also look for additional sites for vendors who still lack a new place to trade, with the aim of resolving the shortage quickly.

Hopefully, that can be prepared in a short time. If that can be done, the problem of insufficient locations for traders will soon be resolved.
