Predoiu Praises Police Intervention After Capturing Bihor Murder Suspect

The swift and decisive action by Romanian law enforcement and dedicated volunteers in apprehending the suspect in the tragic murder of an 18-year-old girl in Parhida, Bihor county, has been met with strong commendation from Interior Minister Cătălin Predoiu. Minister Predoiu extended his sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the structures within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and the volunteers who participated in the operation. This successful capture highlights the MAI's robust capacity for integrated, rapid, and efficient response, operating under the precise coordination of the Bihor County Prosecutor's Office.

I convey my appreciation and thanks, both mine and the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to all the structures involved in the operation carried out today, in Bihor county, following which the person suspected of committing the murder in Parhida locality was apprehended.

The operation showcased a remarkable synergy between various specialized units, including police officers, gendarmes, border police, the General Aviation Inspectorate, and numerous volunteers on the ground. Utilizing all available resources, from road filters and search parties to drones, tracking dogs, thermal imaging binoculars, and a helicopter, the forces meticulously worked to locate the suspect. The coordinated effort underscores the commitment and professionalism of Romania's security forces in ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of heinous crimes to justice.

The operation demonstrates the MAI structures' capacity to act in an integrated, rapid, and efficient manner, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bihor Tribunal.

Speaking on behalf of the MAI leadership, Minister Predoiu also conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, acknowledging the profound grief caused by this tragic event. The suspect, identified as a 39-year-old man from Parhida, was located approximately one kilometer from the crime scene in a rapeseed field, with the assistance of the IGAv helicopter, around 6:10 PM. Initial reports indicate that upon apprehension, the suspect confessed to the crime, stating he repeatedly stabbed the victim in the neck with a pocketknife. This capture, occurring roughly six hours after the operation commenced, serves as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the authorities involved.
