Pregnant Woman Murdered in Panama, Baby Saved in Critical Condition

A shocking act of violence in Panama has resulted in the death of a woman eight months pregnant, though her unborn child was successfully delivered and is now in intensive care. The incident occurred on August 23 in the Guarumal sector of Panama Oeste province.

Authorities have charged a 31-year-old man with aggravated intentional homicide in connection with the woman's death and attempted homicide for the attack on the baby and two other individuals. Details regarding the condition of the other injured parties have not been released.

This tragic event unfolds against a backdrop of increasing gender-based violence in Panama. Judicial statistics indicate a 44% rise in femicides during the first seven months of the year, with 13 cases compared to nine in the same period last year. Attempted femicides also saw a significant increase of 89%, with 17 cases reported compared to nine.

The judicial figures also show that the total number of violent deaths of women remained consistent, with ten cases recorded between January and July of this year and last year.
