Pregnant woman severely beaten by ex-partner in Greece; fetus lost

Shocking details have emerged regarding the brutal assault of a 37-year-old pregnant woman by her ex-partner in Kallithea, Greece. The perpetrator allegedly attacked the woman for approximately an hour and a half, throwing objects and repeatedly striking her body and abdomen. The assault was reportedly motivated by the attacker's desire for the woman to terminate her pregnancy.

According to the victim's testimony, the 28-year-old ex-partner visited her apartment and began a violent assault. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the floor, and continued to hit her relentlessly. The victim stated, "He threw me on the bed and while I was lying down, he came over me and put his leg on my stomach and pressed down. He continued to do so with his knee until I managed to push him away."

The 37-year-old woman was transported to Attikon Hospital in serious condition. Doctors determined an immediate Cesarean section was necessary. Michalis Giannakos, president of POEDIN, stated, "She was bruised all over, her whole body hurt, and the worst of all was that she was pregnant and the fetus, the baby, a little girl, unfortunately lost her life."

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday evening in central Athens. He faces charges including attempted homicide, grievous bodily harm, and termination of pregnancy. He is expected to appear in court next week.
