President Jokowi Remembers Former Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel as 'Hard-Working'

President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, paid his respects at the residence of the late Rachmat Gobel, a former Minister of Trade and a member of the DPR RI from the NasDem Faction. The visit took place on Friday, July 10th, at Gobel's home in Tebet, South Jakarta.

During his visit, President Widodo shared his memories of Rachmat Gobel, describing him as "a good person, a hard-working minister, I think." When asked by reporters about the last time he communicated with the former minister, Jokowi did not provide a direct answer, instead offering his thanks to the media.

Rachmat Gobel passed away early Friday morning, July 10th, at 03:20 WIB. The news of his passing was confirmed by various sources, including the Gorontalo Provincial Government. Gobel was a prominent businessman and served as Minister of Trade in Jokowi's Working Cabinet from 2014 to 2015. He also held the position of Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI from 2019 to 2024.

Beyond his political career, Gobel was recognized for his significant contributions to the national electronics industry through his partnership with Panasonic. As Minister of Trade, he was known for advocating for the protection of the domestic market, combating illegal imports, and strengthening the standardization of national products. His business acumen was also evident in his leadership of the Gobel Group.

The late Rachmat Gobel's body was being laid to rest at his residence in Tebet, South Jakarta. Funeral arrangements included his planned burial at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.
