Prime Da Lat Properties Lie Abandoned Amidst Bureaucratic Hurdles

Prime villas and valuable land plots in the center of Da Lat, Vietnam, are reportedly lying abandoned and deteriorating, representing a significant waste of prime real estate in the popular tourist city. These properties, situated in highly desirable locations, are among the most sought-after in the "city of a thousand flowers."

One notable example is a property at 1 Tran Quy Cap street in Lam Vien ward, spanning over 1,134 square meters. This site, which includes a three-story building, was repossessed in 2023 from Da Lat B&T Co., Ltd. and handed over to the Da Lat City People's Committee for management. Despite plans for auctioning the land, it has remained vacant for over two years, gradually falling into disrepair with overgrown weeds and accumulating trash.

Another significant property is located at 5 Nguyen Thai Hoc street, formerly the Empress Hotel. This site, covering more than 2,544 square meters, boasts a prime location adjacent to Xuan Huong Lake and just a few hundred meters from Da Lat Market. After being repossessed, the hotel has been fenced off and abandoned for three years. Despite having three existing buildings and a central street-front location, it remains unused, contributing to the waste of valuable land.

Local officials acknowledge the issue. Nguyen Tran Nhat Huy, Deputy Director of the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Finance, stated that properties at 1 Tran Quy Cap, the Empress Hotel site at 5 Nguyen Thai Hoc, and Dinh I all have prime locations. He noted that these areas face various complications related to inspection conclusions, and authorities are working to resolve these issues to put the "golden land" plots back into operation.

Additionally, villas at 1 Dong Da and 43 Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, covering 1,877 square meters, are also reported to be vacant and severely degraded. A villa at 1 Dong Da, located on a slope at the entrance to Da Lat's center, has also been fenced off for years. The business that leased this property returned it to the Lam Dong Provincial Housing Management Center in 2025. The prolonged abandonment of these valuable assets in a prime urban area raises concerns about inefficient land management and missed economic opportunities.
