Priority Always Granted on Parallel Roads in Assenede and Kaprijke

In a move designed to enhance road safety and clarity, the Belgian municipalities of Assenede and Kaprijke, in collaboration with the Agency for Roads and Traffic, have implemented a new priority system for drivers on the parallel roads alongside the E34/N49. Previously, right-of-way rules varied between intersections, leading to confusion and potentially hazardous situations. "One rule now makes it clearer for everyone and therefore safer," stated Alderman David Vercauteren of Assenede. This standardization means that traffic on the parallel roads will consistently have priority, simplifying decision-making for all road users. The agency has updated signage accordingly, employing methods like "shark teeth" road markings and yield or stop signs, depending on visibility at each junction. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving the local traffic environment and ensuring a smoother, more predictable flow of vehicles through these areas.
