Prison warden arrested with drugs for inmates

A prison warden has been apprehended with a significant quantity of drugs destined for Magasin Prison in Borella, Colombo. The arrest was made by the Galkissa Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, which seized drugs valued at over 20 million Sri Lankan rupees.

Authorities confiscated 100 grams of "ice" (methamphetamine) and 20 grams of heroin from the suspect. The 32-year-old suspect, residing in Dehiwala, was initially arrested in the Galkissa area. During questioning, he revealed that he received the drug parcel based on location information provided via a WhatsApp call from an inmate serving time at Magasin Prison.

According to the suspect's statement, the drugs were to be delivered to another individual on Vanatha Road in Borella. Following this revelation, a covert operation was launched by a team from the Galkissa Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, led by Chief Police Inspector Nilanthe Gamage.

Officers were strategically positioned, and they apprehended the suspect as he was handing over the drug parcel to another individual, who was dressed in prison sports attire. Prison sources indicated that the arrested warden had been working in the prison system since mid-January, having previously served at Welikada Prison.
