Prosecutor seeks arrest of Radosław Piesiewicz in Zondacrypto case

Polish prosecutors are seeking the arrest of Radosław Piesiewicz as part of an ongoing investigation into the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek announced on Friday that the prosecution has requested Piesiewicz be held in temporary custody for three months.

Piesiewicz has been formally charged with "paid protection" and "acting to the detriment of creditors" in connection with the exchange's potential insolvency. These charges suggest a scheme where preferential treatment was given to certain creditors, potentially harming others during a period of financial distress for Zondacrypto.

Following his arrest in Warsaw on Thursday, Piesiewicz was transferred to the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, which is leading the Zondacrypto investigation. The proceedings involving him concluded on Friday afternoon. The investigation into Zondacrypto itself commenced on April 17, focusing initially on allegations of significant fraud and money laundering.

To date, the investigation has received thousands of criminal complaints related to the exchange's operations. The prosecutor's request for Piesiewicz's arrest highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing efforts to uncover the full extent of any wrongdoing within the cryptocurrency platform.
